Working at a Departmental Store..

Today i started my first day working at a departmental store. Haha.. Isetan is having private and mid-year sales so they hired us to do part-time for a few days. I worked as the person redeeming vouchers for the HSBC and beauty bonus promotion. It is super troublesome to work in a departmental store because you cannot bring a too big bag, cannot walk by entrance, cannot use the escalator, cannot do alot of things la. Very restricted lo.. But it was another experience for me la, nonetheless.

So ya, as usual, when you're in the service sector, u get all sorts of customers. very gei gao kind, very nasty ones, unreasonable ones, and of coz the nice ones. Thanks to those nice ppl, us working in the service sector won't go crazy. LOL. That is the problem with alot of singaporeans. They expect good and cheap stuff but where in the world does that kind of thing exist? Like seriously.. If not is when they are working, they give bad attitude but when they are customers, they expect good attitude. What kind of unreasonable theory is that? Or else there'll be some irritating ppl. thinking that they are educated and maybe well-off then they have their noses up in the air. For wad? Looking to see when a pile of bird shit is gg to fall on them then go buy 4D ar? Aiyo.. Cannot stand these ppl...

For example, there were several times, I realized they are all guys, who will come up to me to redeem a FIVE DOLLAR voucher (Meaning not a very big amount). The promotion requires customers to produce their card, charge slip and receipt before they can redeem. Not because we doubt that they lie to us or wad but because we need to send the records back to the bank and we need to take down their names and card numbers. Then unreasonable ppl will have this kinda conversation with me. (N I repeat, they are all GUYS.)
Me: Sorry Sir, I'll need your credit card pls...
Male customer: What?! Aiyo.. I thought just now see already? What is the problem with you all? See n see... N it's juz only a FIVE DOLLAR voucher! (meanwhile reluctantly fiahing out his card from his wallet)
Me: (Irritated) Sorry sir, but we need to take down ur CARD NUMBER because we need to send this back to the bank
Male customer: (ignoring what I said) This is very ridiculous... Very inefficient. I'm in a rush you know? N it is JUST a five dollar voucher! So troublesome!
Freaking ridiculous.. Deep inside I was thinking, if you think so lowly of a 5 dollar voucher, y do u even bother to redeem? N y is it only 5 dollars? Because u are a stingy man and refuse to spend more. Seriously, if you spend 1K, I would not hesitate to exchange 50 dollars worth of vouchers for u lo. Simply dun make sense. That's y I say, juz because u are educated does not mean others are not. By kicking up such a fuss, u are only embarrassing urself... Again, I want to repeat, this happened a few times. So it means that there are quite a few such customers in Singapore. To think that there was a guy who came up to redeem the full 200 dollars worth of vouchers and was so much more polite than everyone else added together.

Another instance. Because there were 2 promotions ongoing, isetan management decided to have 2 queue-lines to redeem vouchers. However, when it becomes kinda busy, I'll be the only one redeeming vouchers for both sides. So there was this very effeminate guy hu came up to the HSBC queue and stood there for a while (I was sitting at the beauty bonus queue). Then eventually, he asked in a very annoying manner:
Effiminate Guy: Errm.. Excuse me. It says this queue is for HSBC redemption but I dun see anyone sitting here.. So, wad are we suppose to do?
Me: Oh, sorry.. I'm the one redeeming for both HSBC and beauty bonus. If you could wait a while, I'll attend to you shortly...
Effiminate Guy: But this doesn't make sense! Why do you even bother to have a barricade here and separate the 2 queues when ther's juz one person redeeming for both? This is very inefficient!
Me: Sorry, juz give me a moment..
Effiminate Guy: Murmurs to his 'friend'
Haix.. Another one of this kinda rubbish customer. N he is not even the one redeeming the vouchers. It is his 'friend' hu is redeeming lo. Make so much noise.. For what? Dots.. Lucky his fren is more polite or I might juz punch them in the nose...

Digressing a lil, I saw the same thing happened at BBDC the other day. I went there to queue and apply for my PDL, hu noes got alot of ppl so I ended up waiting for close to 2 hrs plus before my turn came. Juz when I was about to be done, a couple came up to the counter next to mine. Then the guy started making alot of noises. N to think that the lady at the counter was so polite to him. She was more polite than the laday attending to me hu juz talked in single syllable lo... So unfair...
Lady at counter: (smiling) Hi, good afternoon! What can I help you with today?
Angry Man: You know u ppl are working very inefficiently? I waited for 2 hours plus! This is a very bad system. How can you let us wait so long? (continues ranting...)
Lady at counter: (still smiling and processing their stuff for them) Haha.. Is it? We are also trying very hard to clear the queue..
Angry Man: (cuts in) This is terrible. I cannot believe how bad this is... You should really do sth to make a change... (continues ranting...)
Lady at counter: (still smiling.. I seriously admire her) We know, we are also trying to clear the queue. All of us haven't had lunch yet. We look at the queue we also din dare to leave the counter. You can feedback to our staff downstairs at the counter regarding this...
Man: (continues blaming the poor lady)
I ended up shaking my head and leaving the counter before he was done venting his anger. Seriously, what gives these ppl the right to vent their anger on the poor lady who cannot do anything much to help the situation? It's juz very unfair. N as usual, I've no idea y, that guy was not the one who needs to get stuffs setttled. It was his gf who needs to get things done. So he could actually leave if he wants to? Wadeva.. I juz dun understand y muz ppl step out and talk for other ppl? To say the truth, IT IS NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS! I will not want anyone to speak up for me. I have the mind and intelligence to speak for myself. Thank you.

In conclusion, I feel that working in a different environment short-term is kinda cool but not long-term for me, I guess. I cannot take the sitting down for long hours. My back and body ached like crazy end of these 2 days. But lucky for us, despite all those annoying customers and boring hours, there was a cute guy there for us to see. Haha! Eye-candy! Lol.. Ok, (trying not to be despo...) Haha... But he looks cute and interesting la. Would be good to have him as a fren and find out more abt him but dun dare to talk to him... *shy* LOL.
Ewww... I'm disgusted with myself. Haha.. But I guess this is what happens when you are wayyyyy too bored. :p
Anyway, haix.. shld have taken the chance to talk to him when we were alone in the lift. Too bad la. Parkway so far.. I guess I won't see him again le ba. Unless I go back there.. Hee... Dunno if he's part-timer or full-timer.. Hmmm... Wadeva la!

Graduation!

It felt like yesterday when I stepped into Ngee Ann Polytechnic campus for the first time officially as a student, looking for LT24. Haha! What a day it was. That was first year's orientation day. I remembered telling myself to be friendly and talk to more ppl as I walked into the campus. A most memorable incident is when I saw so many ppl stopping in front of the campus map placed near the entrance, searching for their report venue. Haha.. I heard them saying LT24 in their cconversation so I joined them and asked if we could go together. In the end, I was walking with a girl who got into the school of engineering. Both of us were quite shocked y we are gg to the same LT when we are from different schools but we still walked together to find that particular LT. In the end, she was the one who made a mistake and she went to another LT that she was supposed to go to. That was the first fren in NP which, I'm sorry to say, I cannot remember how she look like at all... After that, I approached the queue outside LT24 and started chatting to some of the ppl there. In the end, I found out that they were all mass comm students and I was told to join another queue by the side for FSV-ians. Haha... Those ppl I talked to then also became 'hi-bye' frens eventually. Finally, I entered the LT and met all my very good frens which I'll be with for the next 3 yrs. And maybe foreva... :D
Wondering is it my nerves all juz desperate to talk, I became very persistent to speak to the girls sitting behind me. Probably because I was the only one occupying the seats in the first row then. Haha.. Until now, they can never forget the first day they met me and their first impression of me. LOL. After the briefing, we went to the classrooms for registration class by class and we got to know each other better. I was kinda glad that my first class (T1B3) has the most number of girls. Being imprinted the fact that FSV has more guys than girls, I was a lil afraid since I've been in a all-girls sch for the past 10 yrs. It just needs some getting used to. Amazingly, I did not have such problems. Haha.. In fact, no one knew i was from an all-girls sch until I told them. Haha...
So after the registration, one of the lecturers, Heng Han, came in to talk to us. In fact, he more like scaring us than toking to us. Ended up our Advisor then, Douglas, had to stop him from continuing further. Haha... But we had a great chat with them. So nice that we chatted for very long, so long that we all decided not to go for the cca showcase. Haha... I think T1B3 has the most number of ppl without cca for the next 3 yrs. LOL.
After everything, the girls exchanged phone numbers and agreed to meet up on the first day of sch at the bus-stop. Then we all split up and that is how I started my poly education in NP.

Haha.. Indeed it really feels like just not too long ago. I could still visualize the exact happenings on that day. But how time flies, 3 yrs had juz gone by and all is left are the memories lodged deep in our hearts and minds. Some happier ones are definitely there very obviously but I'm sure the less happier ones are also there but somewhere deeper inside. Nevertheless, they are still part of my experience in the past 3 yrs and I'm very happy I got them. Be it a happy or a sad one. I will miss everyone! When and how many more times in the future can we still meet up with everyone and have fun juz like what we had?

So today was the graduation (like finally). Haha..
The day started with me waking up to prepare and all. then finally Dad and Mum with me drove down to NP bringing my gown and myself wearing a pair of nice-looking but uncomfortable heels. On the car, ppl were like calling and sms-ing to see where I am. Apparently, I was kinda late la. Haha.. But luckily, after leaving mum n dad on their own and walking at the fastest speed I can with my gown and all, I made it juz on time to catch my breath and chatted a lil with the ppl there. Not bothering abt the briefing, we were suddenly told to put on our gowns and queue up to get ready to enter the convention centre.
As I was entering the convention centre, my phone rang so I was talking on the phone as I entered. Haha.. After a while, I put down the phone and realized that the camera was on us when we entered. Which means me talking on the phone was captured on tape. LOL. N everyone saw it. Haha! So embarrassing. A bit like disrespect for the ceremony la. But I had no choice la. I tried to put down the phone but the other party continued talking. Haha... Not my fault la. :P
So we all settled down, after gg to toilet and all. Then we were told to rise for the congregation, then have to sing national anthem (like -_-'''). Very long never sing liao a bit cannot remember. Haha. I think they know or it's juz by default but they played the typical National song video then got the lyrics there. Haha.. Thanks alot ar.. Really forgot how to sing liao. So following that is the speech and all then finally started the presentation. First it's FSV then followed by Mass Comm then the award winners. I was one of the award winners so waited till the last. After a very very long time, it was our turn. I went up stage to collect the award, walking very wobbly the whole while. Then went to collect the cert and other stuffs before returning to my seat. I was always very afraid when I come down from the steps because it is very unstable. The chairs are the foldable ones so very not steady that kind lo. Scary~~
After the whole ceremony ended, with the valedictorian speech and all, I made a run for the toilet. Because so heng, it was the time of the month for me so I was feeling really uncomfortable since halfway through the ceremony. Finally, cannot tahan anymore so have to rush to the toilet. After that, I went to find mum and dad and got the camera then began all the photo-taking n stuffs... Saw Ryan! Haha.. So happy, coz very long din see him le then miss him alot. So good he come back for the ceremony. Took pics with him, mum n dad, other ppl.. Then mum n dad left to walk walk and I continued taking pics and stuffs. Finally, after my feet started to hurt like crazy and I felt that mum n dad were waiting for way too long, I took my leave. First dragging my feet to return the gown then drag somemore to go meet mum n dad. When finally on the car, I immediately changed to slippers. Haha.. Felt like heaven for my feet. Was talking happily to mum n dad as we drove home. :D

Finally got home, had a bath, used computer to upload photos and do random stuffs then finally left home again to meet the rest for sushi buffet dinner. Haha... It was a bad idea.

We had the sushi dinner at raffles place's uob centre. It was sakae again. Despite myself being so disappointed in sakae, amazingly still got alot of ppl like to go there. But then again, I was disappointed as usual. The sushi was not fresh. The sashimi was even worst, me and calvin had to puke it out. All-in-all, not nice and expensive. Haix..

After dinner, we decided to go to Timbre. So it's me, xq, dx and z hu went in the end. One piece of advice: DO NOT drink beer after having a sushi buffet. It is not a very good idea. Well, I tried it and I felt very uncomfortable after. But we had fun chilling there and juz relaxing for a while. :D
A drink and a few sips of beer later, we decided to make a move so we can still catch the last train. While walking to city hall mrt, xq and z were walking very slowly because of their shoes and hurting feet. Thank god I went home first to change. Haha!
Ended up calvin took out his tripod and camera while waiting, wanting to shoot the night scene from the middle of padang. Haha... So the rest left and I stayed behind until my brother told me he's reaching then I left calvin there alone. Sorry abt that.. Later on he said he finished shooting n was on his way home le.

In conclusion, it was a very fun, happy and eventful day. This is indeed a day to be marked in my life calender. :D

First REAL Driving Experience...

After going through 1 basic theory test and 2 final theory tests, I decided to start my practical driving lessons. Actually one could start the lessons after they passed their basic theory and gotten the PDL (provisional driving licence). But I wanted to finish my final theory before starting the practical lessons.
Therefore, upon passing the final theory, I registered with a private instructor and went for my first lesson today. :D

It was a scary moment for me when I was at the carpark, looking out for a car that I had never seen before. Initially, I panicked and wondered if I was at the correct place. Partly blaming myself for not reaching earlier. I messaged the instructor but did not get any reply. Abt 5 minutes later, I spotted the car driving up and making a turn before stopping in front of me across the road. I waited a while for the student to get off the car then I approached the car warily, still not very sure if it is the right one. Lol.
Amazingly, he knew it was me before I even said "hi". He signaled me to get into the car before driving off. We had some light conversations, like wad I'm doing now and stuffs.. Then he said he's bringing me to a place that is easier to learn, a place with lesser cars, etc.

Maybe it was due to the fact that we had nothing much to tok abt but the ride to the bukit batok carpark seemed really long. Upon reaching the carpark, he signalled for me to switch places. After that, we talked for a very long while, around 45 minutes. He was explaining logistics stuff for me. Which I juz listened la. Thinking that there won't be much time left to learn anything le...
Who knows he suddenly told me to adjust my seat, adjust the mirrors, fasten my seatbelt, etc. Then he taught me the basics like controlling the gearshift, the pedals, the handbrake. Then the next moment, I'm learning how to move off le. We were like driving around the carpark then as I was driving, he taught me how to change gear. Then I learnt how to stop the car. Eventually, I was moving off, changing gears, and stopping for several times. Until he left me alone to practice on my own. Then when time was up, he told me to drive down the carpark. I tot he will like ask me to stop below to change places but to my surprise, he told me to drive back to the gombak caarpark. I was like shocked. Initially, it was still ok. Until the car stalled then I began to panic and very nearly rammed into the side of the road had he not controlled the steering for me. Damn scary. In the end, I realized that it is really not easy to learn driving. Because while driving, u need to look everywhere, be alert, and control the vehicle at the same time. Definitely not an easy task...

Yup, so all in all, it was a fun but really scary experience. Let's hope next time will be better.

Novels VS Manga/Anime

For the past month, I've been reading mangas and watching animes... until recently I went back to the novels routine.

Well, each is fun in their own way. Mangas give you visuals, animes give you action whereas novels give you the story and the intelligence of the author. Of coz, we see that in mangas and animes as well. Sometimes even better but I feel that novels are more detailed and it makes the reader feel better to visualize the descriptions rather than have it 'fed' to them. :D

I juz finished this novel and a thought came into my mind. I think that it is really cute when a guy proposes or anything close then he feels nervous. Haha... On the other hand, I dislike those guys who has an ego as big as the universe and knows they are goin to get what they want without even thinkin. Seriously, no one can KNOW what another person wants truly. Ok, maybe there's things like telepathy or wad but I still think not to assume.

Which leads me to another topic. Why are guys so afraid to fail? Why only the minority of guys have the courage to ask a girl out and the courage to wait for the answer? What is so frightening about it? Ok, maybe I know the reason behind that fear... But I still insist to believe that - if you tried, you'll know. Vice versa, if you never tried, you'll never know. Then what is the point? I mean, how can you know for sure about anything? It always juz win or lose and no in-between. Right? Y not juz make that bet and see what turns out? You might win a tiny fortune for all you know!

Haix.. In conclusion, I can only say... I will never and cannot understand guys. Not at all...

Waiting for time to pass...

I'm trying very hard not to fall asleep now because I have to wake up at 4am later. So, might as well dun sleep so I won't oversleep. Haix...

Later at 4am, I have to go to the airport to pick a guest up and send him to Amara hotel @ Sentosa.
Sian.. So early, nothin to do also. Then still need to waste time before gg to pick up another round of guests...
Actually, I volunteered for this year's SIFF (aka Singapore International Film Festival). Somehow, I got myself into the hospitality team, which is to pick guests up from the airport and send them in the hotel, settle them down in Singapore. My job scope also includes picking guests up from certain places then sending them to the places they are required to go to.

Last Saturday, I picked up 2 guests and sent them to the hotel. Both are jury for this yr's SIFF and they are very friendly people. QUite different from what I thought. So I felt better after the day, Initially, I thought I was going to die from nervousness but they turn out to be really friendly and we were chatting quite comfortably. :D

Thanks to them, I did not feel as afraid as I did initially. Haha...

It was a good experience, but I think I'm really not cut out for this kinda job ba.
First of all, I'm not terrific at interacting with people. There were alot of awkward silences that ensued.
Secondly, I do not know my country well. When asked questions about Singapore, I will be speechless and gives question mark face. (Sry abt that, but I'm never interested in these kinda things.) However, I'm always interested about cultures and religions stuff. Just that that interested in history and geography la. Haha...

Yup, so hospility is actually my weak spot. So is interacting with people. So I tend to avoid these when I can. :P
Nevertheless, I hope these 2 weeks will be a fun and enriching experience for me. :D

Attending a University Graduation

Today, my whole family went to attend my sis's graduation.

This is my first time at a university graduation. So it was something like an eye-opener for me. Well, I guess it really did OPEN my eyes for one thing. Haha.. In a sad kinda way though.

Usually, when it comes to these sort of events, you would expect civilized people, educated people participating. But it was otherwise. I mean, it is a formal event indeed. Everyone made an effort to dress up and all. Come on, even the never-wear-skirt-unless-no-choice-female wore a SKIRT! What do you expect?

The day started off with the 4 of us, dad and mom and bro and me, entering the campus and then the hall for the event. After what seemed like very long waiting, the boring-but-supposedly-useful speeches started and most people fell asleep. I dun understand why can't they juz keep awake for that half an hour. Even if you don't understand what they are saying, at least give them the credit for coming up with the speech and standing up there to talk la. You are the one sitting down and you are complaining? Ridiculous.

So after that is the presentation of the degrees and all. This is the first sign of ugliness in humans. It is so obvious in the audiences' attitude that you can juz easily point out who are the parents of who. Because they only clap for their own children! Then the rest of the people are like what? Grew up eating glass? Invisible? Seriously!

After the very long presentation process, the graduates and the audience are invited to the buffet served downstairs. So we slowly made our way down and met up with sis then we started to get food. The food served was considered of quite good quality but I can never understand how come people are able to pile up their food so high up on their plates. I actually consider that as a skill. Especially considering the plates we were given to use. The plates were very convenient, the kind that gives you a slot for the cups and fork. But it is left with very little space for food. There was even once when dad tried to help me get the salmon nugget and it fell off the plate through the slot for the cup. LOL. N my plate was not even full! Lol. Wonder how they can pile up so high and make it through the crowd. Haha...
Then comes the joke of the day. Because at the side counter, they were serving peking duck wrapped in some kinda skin with spring onions and sauce. It is so super obvious that they are serving duck. Then as my bro and I were queuing, we heard a university grad in front of us asking "Is this beef?"... LOL. Really dunno what to say. She asked the question to the chef and at first he gave a blur look then after she asked the second time, he was like.. "duck, duck" in an impatient tone. Haha... Coz the queue was pretty long and they are very busy. But it was funny. No offense to that poor girl. Yet, after seeing that situation, we start to question... That was a university graduate asking that question? Hmmm...

Then after eating, sis went to take pictures with her frens and the rest of us were waiting around. Until they met up with us then we took group photos.
Near to the entrance, there was this board that allows you to take picture with. It is this board that has the school's sign and the word "GRADUATION" with some graduating picture behind la. I did not think that it was any special but apparently there were many people queuing to take picture with it. So we were standing around waiting for our turn and discussing if they should take a picture with it until this man in front of us told us sharply that there is a queue. Probably afraid that we are cutting queue? I dunno. So they went and queue while I went back to my parents and waited for them. It is indeed true that humans spend 1/3 of their life waiting. Because no matter what we do, we are waiting. So, they were still queuing when I went to join them. Juz when it is about to be their turn (one more person before us), these 2 b**ches happily cut the queue and happily took pictures. Nvm that they cut queue but they went overboard.
First, that 2 graduate took a picture. Then one left and the other one's parents came in to take another 2 pictures. Then her siblings came in, then the boyfriend came in then her close frens took another one. After that whole round, the other graduate that was with her in the first picture came in and there went another round - parents, siblings, frens, then boyfriend. WTF? Meanwhile, we were speaking in loud, sarcastic tones at the side. Esp bro. Haha... Actually it is quite hilarious! We were 'encouraging' them to continue taking, best is take until midnight or better yet, juz take video! Then the rest can juz go home le lo. Haha... But they were really uncivilized to the max. After they finish taking, I heard one of the b**ches talking to her fren. And the conversation went like this;
Fren: Wa.. need to queue de ar? Like very long eh...
B**ch: No la, dun need to queue la. You juz see then quickly jump in front of the board can already.
WHICH MEANS SHE AND HER FREN IS CUT THE QUEUE ON PURPOSE DE!!!
Wa kao... Why this kinda people also have de? What is the world coming to? To think they are University Graduates. 真的是丢脸!

All in all, it was not a very good experience. From then on, actually since long before then, I do not believe in education levels le. But this day has proved my point with my own eyes.

Chilling out with 'Mama and family'!!!

HAHA!!! Weird title. Lol.
I went out chilling with mama (dennis) and my siblings (calvin and whitie) last night. Hee... It was fun!

Yesterday started out with me wanting to meet qammie at 2pm to have lunch and tok a bit before we go and attend the briefing at 4.30pm @ substation. But as usual, in the end, both of us keep dragging the time until we reached city hall at 4pm! O_O!! So e juz went straight to substation. On the way buying drinks and ice cream! Haha.. What's more wonderful than having an ice cream on a rainy day? Lol.

So while having our ice cream and drinks, it was still early so we visited the Peranakan Museum that is just next to substation. Upon reaching the place, qammie was like "this place is freaking familiar!" in excited tones. Lol. In the end we realized that it was the location used for shooting the DreamzFM's "Bring out the V in me" MTV. LOL. We were like.. "oooohhhh!!!" Haha... Joke. So we took pictures and everything (they had a very nice alley beside). After which, the film fest person called and we finally proceeded to substation.

At substation, we met alot of other fsv-ians. Like Wendy, Geraldine, Khai, Artika, etc. Then I realized that my briefing was not supposed to be yesterday so I abit went for nothing but in the end I got roped into helping the other video section. So, still worth the trip la. After that, because whitie was late, me and qammie waited for her at the 'fake' bus stop (because no buses go there) and finally had a chance to talk. Xq aka whitie appeared after what seemed like a few hundred yrs (actually she was only an hour plus late), she went to listen to what the person had to say for 5 minutes then we left le.

Because it was still early to go meet mama, we went with qammie to the library first. I cleared my fines finally. Because now the library dun let you borrow books if you have any fines. Like primary sch sia. So qammie borrowed her book and we made our way to raffles city shopping mall.

We said our byes to qammie and then me and whitie went to wait for the rest. Chiam was already at mac with his frens and calvin reached soon after too. After calling mama, we realized chiam told him the wrong place. He told him to meet at raffles place. Haha... Whereas we are all meeting at raffles CITY. Very different. So in the end mama had to travel back to raffles city to meet us. After all of us (calvin, mama, whitie, chiam, me) met up, we proceeded to Marina's square foodcourt for dinner.

After dinner, chiam left to join his frens for l4d aka left4dead. A game I really want to play but dun have the chance to, sadly. Heard that after that he went for poker too. Haha.. Recently that's the only things he does, I think. Lol.
So the rest of us went with mama to this pub.

Mama has a lot of frens in that area so we met some of his frens also. Then we were all drinking martell. I found out that ginger ale is a good mixer. Haha... Not sure if it only works for martell or can also mix with other drinks. There were karaoke there too so we sung a lil. Sung quite badly. Haha.. So pai seh... We also played dice games and drank and drank and drank. haha... to the extent I keep gg toilet. Lol.

To conclude, it was a fun night. Finally something happening after a long time. Haha... :D
Thank yous to Mama!
